Trade, Industry and Energy Vice Minister Lee Inho (third from left) spoke at the first consultation meeting on renewable energy policies in a hotel in downtown Seoul on August 24.
The meeting was designed to bring together municipal governments, civic groups, industries, and academics to cooperate on the government’s goal to boost the proportion of renewable energy in power generation to 20 percent by 2030.
Vice Minister Lee delivered a speech and discussed various renewable energy issues including the introduction of requirements for municipal governments to plan for renewable energy installations; the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s renewable energy project; and measures to establish regional renewable energy bases to increase installations.
The consultation meeting was attended by senior officials from 17 municipal governments and around 30 representatives from civic groups, industries and academic institutions. They included Local Fiscal and Economic Policy Office Deputy Minister Kim Hyun-ki of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety; Assistant Mayor for Climate and Environment Headquarters Hwang Bo-youn of the Seoul Metropolitan Government; and Green Energy Strategy Institute President Lee Sang-hoon.
