- [ASEAN-ROK Summit] Trade Minister Yoo discusses cooperation with ASEAN ambassadors to Korea in Seoul 2019-11-19
Trade Minister Yoo Myung-hee had a luncheon meeting with ambassadors to the Republic of Korea from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries in Seoul on November 19 ahead of the ASEAN-Korea Commemorative Summit.
The Summit scheduled to be held in Busan from November 25 to 26 will commemorate the 30th anniversary of dialogue relations between Korea and ASEAN.
The luncheon was organized to call for cooperation from participating nations of the Summit for its success and discuss the interests of Korea and Southeast Asia, including the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
The attendees at the meeting included nine ASEAN officials: Thai Ambassador Rommanee Kananurak, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Vu Tu, Cambodian Ambassador Long Dimanche, Indonesian Ambassador Umar Hadi, Lao Ambassador Thieng Boupha, Malaysian Ambassador Datuk Mohd Ashri Bin Muda, Myanmar’s Ambassador Thant Sin, Philippine Ambassador Noe Albano Wong, and Singaporean Ambassador Eric Teo.
During the meeting, Minister Yoo said that on the occasion of the Summit, the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is arranging various events such as a CEO summit, an innovation showcase, and trade and investment exhibitions with an aim to establish communication channels between businesses and deliver economic outcomes. In this regard, she asked for the region’s support and cooperation.
Minister Yoo also expressed gratitude for ASEAN’s leadership shown on November 4 when 15 RCEP participating countries concluded text-based negotiations. She said the expected signing of the RCEP deal would help lay the core foundation for mutual benefit and prosperity.
