Korea and Oman discuss energy supply chain cooperation 2023-06-02

Trade, Industry, and Energy 2nd Vice Minister Kang Kyung-sung held talks with Moshin bin Hamad bin Saif Al Hadhrami, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals in Oman on May 25 in Busan, on the occasion of the Undersecretary’s first visit to Korea to attend the World Climate Industry EXPO (WCE 2023).

The two energy chiefs discussed the issue of securing a stable energy supply chain between Korea and Oman, and supporting Korean companies’ participation in Oman’s plant projects. Oman is the fifth-largest supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Korea and a major market for plant construction.

Noting the diversification of the two countries’ cooperation characterized by recent contracts for the Barka 5 seawater desalination plant (2022, GS E&C) and the Manah 1 solar power project (2023, Korea Western Power Co.), Vice Minister Kang asked for the Oman government’s support for Korean firms’ participation in the upcoming bidding of the 5GW green hydrogen project.
