The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) held the Nuclear Energy Ecosystem Expo 2023 on September 19 at COEX in Seoul, which attracted approximately an all-time high 1,000 visitors and participants, including buyer companies like Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) and Doosan, and 12 public institutions, 45 SMEs and middle-market companies, as well as university students and job seekers.

KHNP presented a plan for the massive injection of new jobs for the construction of Shin Hanul 3 and 4 auxiliary equipment totaling KRW1.9 trillion and nuclear power plant projects for export totaling 800 billion won, followed by success cases shared by companies on entering the global market and overcoming challenges.

Twenty-two firms ran exclusive booths to participate in the event in order to promote their technologies and services, and buyers like KHNP and Doosan, and export supporting institutions like K-SURE and the Export-Import Bank of Korea (Korea Eximbank), were busy with consultations to assist the overseas market entrance of materials and equipment manufacturing SMEs.

At the job fair section, 23 companies in the nuclear industry engaged in talent recruiting interviews and consultations, and a professional consulting agency provided one-on-one job consulting programs to support job seekers with majors in nuclear energy related fields.

MOTIE’s Energy Policy Deputy Minister Cheon Young-gil stated in his congratulatory message that “in view of recent changes in electrical power conditions, new nuclear power plants are also under consideration as a rational power source according to the 11th power supply masterplan establishment process for stable power supply,” and added that “the Korean government plans to supply the industry with job openings and financial assistance while also concentrating on manpower training and technology development for future competitiveness.”
