Government signs resolution for Korea’s CPTPP application 2022-04-19

The Government signed the written resolution for Korea’s Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) application at the 228th Economic Ministers’ Meeting held on April 15.

The CPTPP application plan was established based on outcomes of social discussions and a public hearing held on March 25, on which a written resolution was signed on April 11-15.

Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo stated that “CPTPP application is a matter that Korea has been contemplating for over eight years since the TPP,” and that “the signing of resolution is a step closer to establishing a stable supply chain within the Asia-Pacific region amid the rapidly changing global landscape.” He added that “communication with agriculture and fisheries sector’s interested parties shall continue throughout the application process.”

The Government plans to proceed with domestic procedures for CPTPP application and report to the National Assembly in accordance with commercial treaty laws prior to an official submission of application.
