Trade, Industry and Energy 1st Vice Minister Jang Young-jin met with Dr. Dadan Kusdiana, Indonesia’s Director General of the New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, on May 15 in Jakarta, where they held a signboard hanging ceremony for launching of the Korea-Indonesia E-Mobility Cooperation Center.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) plans to supply Indonesia with 65 electric vehicles (EVs), 90 electric two-wheeled vehicles and 71 chargers, establish an EV aftersales service center, and support Indonesia’s e-mobility infrastructure through training up of maintenance, production and R&D personnel.
Vice Minister Jang also discussed e-mobility collaboration with Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, and agreed to expand bilateral governmental cooperation in terms of R&D tailored to local demand, policy design for increasing supply of eco-friendly vehicles, and assistance for Korean firms in the local market. The Vice Minister further proposed that the Korean and Indonesian governments enter an e-mobility cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU).
It is anticipated that the expanding EV market and governmental support across the ASEAN region will create new opportunities for Korean firms operating in the local market.
