- Korea to seek measures for nurturing local high-tech industries 2023-08-29
The Republic of Korea’s Trade, Industry and Energy Vice Minister Youngjin Jang visited Entegris Korea, an MPE (materials, parts, equipment) manufacturer, on August 29 in Wonju in Gangwon Province and attended the Gangwon High-Tech Development Strategy Forum 2023 to discuss measures for Gangwon Province to contribute to nurturing advanced industries, such as semiconductors, bio and future mobility.
Entegris Korea is a company specializing in semiconductor MPEs, including specialty gases, valves and tubes, with production and R&D facilities in Suwon, Pyeongtaek and Hwaseong. The Wonju plant was established in 2003 and has been operating stably for over 20 years, continuously posting growth in sales. Concerning Entegris Korea’s recent confirmation of its investment plan this March for an additional plant in Munmak, Wonju, Vice Minister Jang remarked that “the semiconductor MPEs are a core part of the supply chain, for which we welcome Entegris’ investment decision.”
Following the site visit, the Vice Minister attended the Gangwon High-Tech Industry Development Strategy Forum hosted by Gangwon Province, where he stated that “the high-tech industry is a major pillar of Korea’s economy and national security asset,” and added that “the Government, capital area and local regions must all work as one team to nurture the high-tech industry, and as there are various companies doing business in Gangwon Province, including 40 semiconductor MPE firms, 1,600 bio firms and 50 automotive parts producers, the region holds considerable potential for high-tech industrial development, and through this forum, we look forward to securing more measures for Gangwon Province to contribute further to high-tech industries.”
