MOTIE announces outcome of 9th Korea-Japan export control policy dialogue 2023-03-16

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) held the 9th Korea-Japan Export Control Policy Dialogue with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on March 14-16 following the bilateral agreement announcement (March 6) on restoring the trade regulatory status.

During the policy dialogue, the two countries exchanged views on their export control systems, enforcement, follow-up measures and export control’s effectiveness.

Based on these exchanges, Japan decided to suspend export regulations on three items (hydrogen fluoride, fluorinated polyimide, EUV photoresist) by making the “special general comprehensive permit” system valid once more as it was prior to July 2019.

Upon Japan’s lifting of export restrictions on the abovementioned three items, the Korean government decided to withdraw its complaint filed to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on said items.

Korea and Japan will further discuss swift measures for mutually reinstating the “white list” status.
